A name like Mais Fica Winery stays with you. Its an homage to the Portuguese term meaning “more for me” which is heard at the table when grandkids refuse to finish all the food on their plates. But their name stayed with me because they keep winning awards. One of their wines took the honorable Double Gold award of 100 points in the California State Fair.

The real treat was meeting the family behind Mais Fica Winery and tasting through their delicious fight. A few favorites were a full bodied rose of grenache that was crisp yet wide on the palate, suitable alongside a steak or stew. Then, a wine labeled “Our Little S&M” had that vibrant fruit you expect from syrah with the spice and complexity you crave from mourvedre. But the most balanced and rich wine was a blend of syrah and grenache with a label as playful as it felt on the palate called Finnigan’s Festa.

All were lovingly hand crafted as this is the owner’s passion. All are priced right for the masses. All are available from their website and various local restaurants. If you don’t buy any Mais Fica Winery wines, then mais fica.
